Draft beer line cleaning companies vary from state to state witht he standards they uphold. Some states require cleaning every two weeks, And for good reason.

Need to save some cash or brush-up on your draft line cleaning service knowledge? We went ahead and provided the standardized step-by-step system that The Brewers Association Draft Beer Quality Manual suggests for optimal cleaning for crisp, clean beer:

Draught line cleaning & tower maintenance must be, without exception, performed every two weeks (14 days), as follows:
  1. Push beer out of lines with cold water.
  2. Clean lines with a caustic solution at 2% concentration for lines that are well-maintained (or new). And 3% concentration for older and rather questionable lines. Solutions must maintain a temperature of 80º - 125ºF
  3. Solution should circulate throughout the lines for a minimum of 15 minutes at a rate of 2 gallons per minute for electric pump cleaning. For static line cleaning, solution should sit in the lines for no less than 20 minutes.
  4. Disassemble (breaking) the faucets and hand clean them. Hand clean couplers also.
  5. ***IMPORTANT*** After cleaning, flush the lines with cold water until the pH matches the tap water you've used to flush the lines with. Ensure that there is no debris present.
Quarterly (3 months):
  1. Break down and hand clean all F.O.B's in the system. (foam detectors, beer savers, etc.)
  2. Break down couplers (tapping devices) and hand clean them.
  3. Administer an acid wash of draught lines as follows*:
    1. Clean lines with acid line cleaner mixed to manufacturer's guidelines. Solution must maintain a temperature of 80º - 125ºF
    2. Circulate the properly balanced solution through beer lines for 15 minutes at 2 gallons per minute (electric pump cleaning). Or, for static line cleaning, let the solution stay in the lines for a minimum of 20 minutes.
  4. Flush lines with cold water and check pH to ensure it matches the pH of tap water. Check to make sure there is no debris being transferred out of the lines.
